Hepatitis B Profile

Hepatitis B Profile test helps to detect and diagnose Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and assess its impact on liver health. This profile is useful in screening people who are at risk of HBV infection, monitoring the progression of the disease, and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment

Components of the test include:

  • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) This detects the presence of HBsAg, a protein on the surface of the Hepatitis B virus. A positive result indicates current HBV infection
  • Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (anti-HBs)  Measures the presence of antibodies produced in response to HBV infection or vaccination. A positive anti-HBs indicates immunity to HBV, either due to past infection or vaccination
  • Hepatitis B e-Antigen (HBeAg) Detects the presence of HBeAg, a marker of active HBV replication. Presence of HBeAg is associated with higher viral replication and increased risk of transmission (infectivity)
  • Hepatitis B e-Antibody (anti-HBe)  Measures the presence of antibodies against HbeAg
  • Hepatitis B Core Antibody (anti-HBc)  Detects antibodies against the core antigen of HBV. Presence of anti-HBc indicates previous or ongoing HBV infection, regardless of whether HBsAg is present or absent
