Profile Tests
Anemia Screening Profile
The Anemia Screening Profile helps in diagnosing anemia- a condition characterized by a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin- and identifying the underlying cause. It includes:
- Serum Iron Low serum iron levels may indicate iron deficiency anemia, a common type of anemia characterized by insufficient iron for hemoglobin synthesis
- Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) Measurement of the total capacity of transferrin, a protein that transports iron in the blood, to bind iron. TIBC reflects the body's ability to transport iron. Elevated TIBC levels may indicate iron deficiency anemia, while low levels can indicate other types of anemia or iron overload conditions
- Serum Ferritin Reflects the body's iron stores. Low serum ferritin levels are indicative of depleted iron stores and are commonly seen in iron deficiency anemia. Serum ferritin is considered one of the most sensitive markers of iron deficiency
- Red Blood Cell (RBC) Folate Folate (vitamin B9) in red blood cells is essential for red blood cell production, and low RBC folate levels may indicate folate deficiency anemia, another type of anemia characterized by insufficient folate for red blood cell synthesis
