Diabetes Profile, Fasting

The Diabetes Profile test checks for signs of diabetes and how the body processes sugar. The test is conducted in fasting condition, and helps in diagnosing diabetes, monitoring blood sugar levels and evaluating overall metabolic health. Some of the component tests in the profile include:

  • Plasma Glucose, Fasting Measures the level of glucose in the blood after a period of fasting (usually 8-10 hours). Elevated levels may indicate diabetes or pre-diabetes
  • Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) Provides an average of blood sugar levels over the past two to three months. HbA1c levels reflect long-term glycemic control, with higher levels indicating poorer control and increased risk of diabetes complications
  • Kidney Function Tests  Includes measurements of creatinine and eGFR in blood sample to assess kidney function. Diabetes is a leading cause of kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy), so monitoring kidney function is essential
  • Microalbuminuria Measures the presence of small amounts of albumin (a protein) in the urine. Elevated levels indicate kidney damage, a common complication of diabetes
